Four killed in traffic crash in Bastrop County

Four people have died and a child is in critical condition after a traffic crash in Bastrop County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says two vehicles crashed on SH 95 near old McDade Road at around 11:38 AM.

Officials say a northbound 95 pickup was traveling at an unsafe speed due to the conditions and hydroplaned and traveled into the southbound lane of traffic. A vehicle traveling southbound on 95 struck the passenger side of the pickup.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver and three passengers in the southbound vehicle died at the scene and one child was taken to Dell Children's in Austin in critical condition. Two out of the four killed were juveniles officials say.

Officials say the road was wet at the time and the crash is still under investigation.

The identities of those involved have not been released because next of kin have not been notified.
