#GivingTuesday: City workers raised $500,000 for charities
From October 1 thru November 30, City of Austin employees managed to raise $500,000 for a combination of local, regional, national, and international charities.
The fund raising efforts were done to coincide with #GivingTuesday, the national day of giving.
“During this year’s fundraising campaign our community was faced with two tragedies, the Bastrop County wildfire and the Halloween flood that hit hard in Southeast Austin,” said Rosie Truelove, Chair of the City’s 2015 Combined Charities Campaign.
The City of Austin said more than 1,200 employees donated to the campaign. There were also two special relief efforts that raised over $26,000. That includes $16,600 raised for the Bastrop Fire and $9,500 for the 2015 Halloween flood efforts.
According to the city, in over 20 years of Austin charitable campaigns, employees have raised more than $12 million.
