H-E-B Feast of Sharing continues to help those in need
For the past 27 years, the H-E-B Feast of Sharing has been serving people who may otherwise not have a Thanksgiving meal.
The event is going on at the Palmer Events Center from 4 p.m to 8 p.m. Organizers expect to serve some 14,000 meals.
Volunteers will serve the meals with some festive entertainment including live music from the Lake Travis High School Fiddlers, Fabtones and a Beatles tribute band.
There will also be a children's area for kids to enjoy arts and crafts with help from the Contemporary Austin.
Just how much food does it take to serve so many meals? Turns out it's quite a lot!
- 3,500 pounds of sliced turkey
- 3,500 pounds of mashed potatoes
- More than 3,000 pounds of vegetables
- 280 gallons of brown gravy
- 1,400 pies
- 14,000 dinner rolls
More than 15 nonprofits will also be on site offering social services outreach to guests.
For those unable to make the event because they are homebound, Meals on Wheels and more will deliver them on Thanksgiving Day.
Parking is free at the Palmer Events Center for the event. H-E-B also has complimentary one day bus passes courtesy of Cap Metro.
