Homicide: 1 dead, 2 injured in shooting at East Austin gathering

The Austin Police Department says it is investigating a homicide in East Austin, the city's 64th homicide this year.

Police received multiple calls Saturday night about multiple gunshots in the 2500 block of Sol Wilson Avenue.

"When officers arrived on scene, they located two male individuals with obvious trauma to their bodies," said Cpl. Jose Mendez with APD. "The three victims in this incident were two males and one female."

According to APD, the shooting occurred shortly after 10 pm Saturday night.

Officers were on scene conducting interviews with witnesses in the area and collecting security footage people may have.

"Based on preliminary information, there was a gathering of some sort in the residence behind me, and a disturbance took place," Mendez said. "That disturbance led to three people being injured, one of which is deceased here today."

APD is asking for the public's help. If you know anything about the homicide, reach out to the homicide unit.

"At this time nobody is in custody, and I don't have any suspect information, because this is a very fresh and active scene," Mendez said. "We can't say for certain that this is an isolated incident."

APD could not confirm if the individuals in this incident knew each other or lived in the residence.

"I believe they were part of the same gathering. Like I said, two males, one female, one is deceased, one was transported to a local hospital where they are currently in stable condition, and the third was a female," Mendez said. "I don't know exactly her involvement or the extent to her injuries."
