Local events being held to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Multiple events are being held around town to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Maritn Luther King Jr.

The Annual Community March will be going on for its 27th year. The Austin Area Heritage Council is the group responsible for putting the event together and this year's theme is "Enabling Others to Continue to Change".

All Austinites are encouraged to realize Dr. King's dream of unity and equality by participating in the march.

The march kicks off at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK statue on the University of Texas campus. From there people will march to the south steps of the Capitol for a rally. The march will then continue to Huston-Tillotson University where several activities are planned. The festival starts at 11:15 a.m. Get more details here.

Over the weekend, nearly 200 people volunteered their time for the annual MLK Day of Service cleanup and spent the day cleaning MLK Boulevard.
