One person dead after East Austin house fire

Investigators are looking into what caused a house fire on Single Shot Circle that left a 61-year-old woman dead.

The fire started at around 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived, a person from the home was already outside. The person, who officials say was the victim’s son, was suffering from smoke inhalation but was able to tell rescue crews that his mother was trapped inside the back of the home.

Firefighters immediately went into rescue mode but were unable to rescue the woman inside. Officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the home. Damage to the home is estimated to be about $100,000.

The identities of the people involved have not been released until family members are notified.
