Pflugerville woman fills home with donations for South Austin pregnancy center

Roughly one year ago, Dawn Branecky decided she did not want her coworker's “pack n’ play” go to waste.

A woman she met through work was involved with TruCare Pregnancy Center in Austin, so Branecky decided she could take the “pack n’ play” there.

Then Branecky, a Pflugerville resident, put a post on the “Buy Nothing Pflugerville” Facebook page, asking if anyone else in the community had donations they wanted her to bring to the center.

“It just kind of exploded, everybody had something.” Branecky said.

One year later, Branecky’s home is overflowing with donations.

“Social media is an amazing thing. It can go so far. People want to help. We want to do good things,” Branecky said.

At least twice a week Branecky cleans off donated items and makes the 40 minute trip from her Pflugerville home to the South Austin center.

“She brings the most material donations to us. The most clothing, the most maternity clothes, just the baby items, she’s one of our top donors,” TruCare center manager Cindi Harris said.

Branecky said the level of donations have not only exceeded her expectations but her storage capabilities.

“It’s craziness, I mean, my garage is full,  it’s always full, my husband wants his garage back," Branecky said. "Right now I have a spare bedroom that looks insane. It looks like a tornado went through there.”

Friday, Branecky’s husband, may have gotten one step closer to winning his garage back.

The Braneckys had a shed placed in their backyard, where she plans to store donations until they can be cleaned and dropped off. She calls it her “diva den.”

“I’m just so proud of our community. [It] makes me feel good that we could all come together and help,” Branecky said.
