Repairing Lake Travis homes damaged by flooding

Many homes received water damage from recent flooding along Lake Travis and now homeowners are being told they have to wait to make any repairs.

People returned to their homes to get estimates and check out damage from the floods and many found notices from the county.

The notices state that repairs are prohibited without proper authorization from the county. Homeowners must get a permit prior to the rebuilding process.

For now all most flood victims can do is clean up and remove debris.

Next Tuesday (11/6) Travis County Commissioners plan to discuss whether the elevation of certain homes needs to be addressed before the rebuilding begins. The notice says those who sustained a certain amount of damage will need to rebuild on higher ground to avoid flooding in the future.

Officials estimate a total of 400 structures were damaged throughout Travis County.

A reminder that you don't need a permit to clean up parts of your home just one if you plan to make repairs or rebuild.
