ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express is hosting open auditions in February to find Central Texas' best to perform the National Anthem at the team's 2020 home games.
Auditions will be held inside the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond on Feb. 10 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There is no fee and the general public is invited to audition.
According to a team press release, hundreds of people and groups audition to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" at one of the team's 70 home games and less than 50 spots remain at the time of auditions due to off-season bookings of large groups, such as school and church choirs.
Those wishing to audition must keep their performance under 90 seconds and use a traditional, military-style with little to no creative variation. Vocal submissions must be a cappella, but instrumental auditions are welcome.
Individuals and groups wanting to audition must fill out an application form and bring it with them to their audition.
Performers will audition in front of a panel of judges, including Laurie Winckel, owner of Vocal Edge Voice Studio with locations in Hutto and Georgetown.
All participants will be notified if they have been invited to perform within two weeks. If selected, the performer must sing the same version they auditioned with at their scheduled game.
Those who cannot attend the auditions but wish to perform can submit a video recording of their audition via email to Express director of ballpark entertainment Steve Richards at firstname.lastname@example.org. Video auditions will only be evaluated after all in-person performers have been scheduled and notified.
