Teen dies from injuries sustained in Killeen crash

A crash in Killeen has left two dead.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday, Killeen police responded to a call of a major crash at the intersection of State Highway 195 and Chaparral Road. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra and a 2020 Nissan Armada in the roadway.

According to a preliminary investigation, the Elantra, occupied by two adults, was making a left onto southbound Highway 195 when the Armada traveling northbound ignored a red light and collided with the Elantra.

The passenger of the Elantra was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and has since been moved to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Vivian Michelle Gonzalez, later died from her injuries on Dec. 23.

The driver of the Elantra, 21-year-old Patrick Lee Stephens, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three people in the Armada reported only minor injuries.

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit is still investigating the fatal crash.
