Woman killed in rollover crash on William Cannon

A woman in her 20s died Sunday morning in a crash near William Cannon and South 1st. She was the passenger in a SUV that lost control according to a witness.

Austin police are looking into what led up to the crash and not ruling out the possibility of alcohol.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay. It's not clear what charges, if any, he could be facing.

David Soriano lives nearby. He went to get something out of his car and that's when he heard tires screeching. He says the driver lost control and the SUV flipped over. Soriano went over to help.

He says he found a man who was ejected from the vehicle. He was alert and walking around. There was a woman in the passenger seat. Soriano says she was not in good shape.

"This street is constantly having accidents. It's the second time of someone dying here," said Soriano, that he knows of.

APD has not released the name of the driver or the victim.
