Woman who drowned near Barton Springs Pool identified

The woman who drowned near Barton Springs Pool has been identified. The Medical Examiner's Office says 34-year-old Leah Morgan Durrett's death was accidental. Strong currents are believed to be a factor.

Durrett's death prompted authorities to issue a warning about dangerous water conditions.

Durrett was tubing Barton Creek with friends around 8 p.m. on Memorial Day. Police say the group entered the water at Twin Falls and traveled toward Barton Creek Pool. That's when Durrett was reportedly swept into a culvert and never resurfaced.

It was more than two hours later when Durrett's body was located in a water bypass tunnel.

Austin Police Department, Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department were all involved in the search and recovery efforts.

Authorities stress the dangers of fast moving currents and water safety all the recent rain.

Barton Springs Pool was closed at the time and will remain closed until further notice.
