Local efforts on Australia Day to help raise money for wildfire recovery relief

As many in Australia deal with the devastation from wildfires that are burning there, local groups are coming together to help raise money to help on Sunday, January 26 which is also Australia Day.

Below is a list of some of the events going on:

Austin Food & Wine Alliance's Austin for Australia

More than two dozen bars and restaurants across town will be giving a portion of the day's sales or offering menu specials to help relief. 

Additionally Tito's Handmade Vodka will be providing $1 for every Tito's cocktail sold at participating concepts.

100% of funds raised by Austin for Australia will be split with three nonprofits spearheading relief.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organization, working with front-line charities that are feeding vulnerable Australians.

Poverty relief organization GIVIT is collecting a wide variety of donation items requested by people affected by the fires, ranging from dog food to fencing materials.

Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization, WIRES, is using the funds for the care of native animals affected by the catastrophe.

To kick it all off there will be an event at Half Step, located at 75 1/2 Rainey Street, from 3-6 p.m. from which proceeds from food and drink sales will benefit Austin for Australia. Get more details here.

Austin Flows for Australia

lululemon Austin is parterning with the gym MADabolic to host a yoga class to raise donations for the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund. The class will be at MADabolic located at 440 East Saint Elmo Road #E and will start at noon.

There is no fee for the class but participants are urged to donate.

In addition to the money from the class, lululemon has donated $50,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund.

Austin for Aussies Benefit Day with the Austin Crows

The Austin Crows have partnered with Parlor & Yard and Stereotype for Australia Day celebrations and percentage of proceeds from the day across both the bars will go towards disaster relief charities.

The Crows have also been raising money until January 31st through its Kicking Goals for Bushfire Relief fundraiser.
