APD confirms second employee tests positive for COVID-19

The Austin Police Department says that two of its employees have now tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Details about the employee have not been released but APD says that the person is a civilian and is at home in quarantine.

The other employee that has tested positive is a sworn officer. Due to privacy concerns the department is not releasing what unit the officer works in.

APD says the department has notified employees who have potentially had contact with the two employees who've tested positive.

"The health and safety of our employees and the community is of the utmost importance and we are continuing to exercise all precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19. We would like to remind the public to stay home and work safe," says a public information officer with APD.
