An 11-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida is comforting homeless animals while making history. Nehemiah Turner is the first child to reach 100 hours of reading to dogs as part of the Jacksonville Humane Society's Pawsitive Reading program.
Since joining the program in 2024, Nehemiah Turner has spent countless hours reading to shelter dogs, hoping to make them feel calmer and more comfortable as they're waiting to get adopted.

"I like to help them get adopted a lot. One of my favorite dogs is Hopper. He was a really good dog, and he would sit down after I tried to read to him. He would sit down. And my other favorite dog is Augie. That's the first dog I read to," said Turner.
The Jacksonville Humane Society recognized Nehemiah for his dedication to the Pawsitive Reading program in a Facebook post. He was also featured in a Kind News magazine article, a national publication that helps children understand and respect animals, and a news segment on River City Live.
