Burglar who stole safe may be connected to 10 other burglaries

The masked burglar wastes no time, he looks directly at the surveillance camera, grabs a hold of the safe from underneath the desk and yanks it free. Austin police describe the suspect as African American, between 20 to 30 in age with a slim build.

Rio Night Club caught the burglar on camera breaking into the main office and stealing an undisclosed amount of cash. Det. Nathan Bosworth said the suspect may be tied to at least ten other night club burglaries in downtown Austin.

"We believe that this case may be related to a series of similar downtown area burglaries as well which have been going on since late November," Det. Bosworth said.

Rio General Manager Stormy Suberbielle said the club will be enhancing security while police investigate. "We are consulting with some people who are experts in security and we are going to figure out ways to make the venue more secure," said Suberbielle.

APD hopes someone might be able to identify the burglar or his getaway car a dark gray newer model Jeep Renegade. If you have any information regarding this burglary or any of the other burglaries surfacing around downtown, you are asked to contact APD’s Burglary Unit at 512-974-6941.
