Kerrville police upgrades charges in man's assault to murder

Charges in the assault of a man in Kerrville have been upgraded to murder after the victim died, says the Kerrville Police Department.

Louis Earl Vaughn passed away at a San Antonio nursing home on April 15. He had been the victim of an assault on July 10, 2019 near the boardwalk of the Guadalupe River, west of the Schreiner One Center in Kerrville.

Kerrville police say Vaughn suffered severe injuries to his head and has remained unconscious since the assault. 

Alexander Scott Haley was found later that day and arrested for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. On May 18, a grand jury was presented with information about Vaughn's death and Haley's charge was upgraded to first-degree felony murder.

Haley has been in custody since his initial arrest and will now be held on a $250,000 bond, says Kerrville police. If convicted, he faces five to 99 years in prison and/or a fine up to $10,000.
