Nearly 300 animals adopted during Austin Animal Center's Black FURday event

Nearly 300 animals were adopted during the Austin Animal Center's Black FURday adoption event, according to the shelter.

The shelter waived adoption fees all weekend long from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1

As a result, the center reported that 175 pets left the building over the weekend and 123 are waiting for spay/neuter surgery, bringing the total to 298 animals. At the beginning of the event, the center reported they were over-capacity with more than 800 cats and dogs in need of homes.

However, the shelter still has over 1,000 adoptable animals, 613 in the shelter and 425 in foster homes.
