AUSTIN, Texas - Nearly 300 animals were adopted during the Austin Animal Center's Black FURday adoption event, according to the shelter.
The shelter waived adoption fees all weekend long from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1
As a result, the center reported that 175 pets left the building over the weekend and 123 are waiting for spay/neuter surgery, bringing the total to 298 animals. At the beginning of the event, the center reported they were over-capacity with more than 800 cats and dogs in need of homes.
However, the shelter still has over 1,000 adoptable animals, 613 in the shelter and 425 in foster homes.
The shelter says they took in 29 pets and only 59 went to new homes Monday.
Those wanting to adopt can visit the shelter Monday- Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or learn more about the adoption process online.
