Police: Missing 11-year-old girl found dead in Alabama

A search for a missing 11-year-old Alabama girl has ended in tragedy after her body was found Saturday morning.

Early Saturday morning around 1, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office of Alabama shared a photo of 11-year-old Amberly Lee Barnett, saying she had gone missing Friday night.

Amberly had been last seen in the Mt. Vernon community around 6 p.m.

Saturday afternoon, DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Walden held a news conference saying that they had located Amberly's body at 6:30 that morning.

"I can tell you we are dilegently, dilegently pursuing different avenues and, Lord willing, we will have answers in the upcoming days," Walden said.

Walden said his heart was "shattered" by the news and asked for thoughts and prayers to be with the little girl's parents and family.
