School closures: Districts delay classes on 1/22 due to winter weather
AUSTIN, Texas - Due to winter weather and freezing temperatures, some Central Texas school districts have made operational changes for Wednesday, Jan. 22.
What school districts are impacted?
The backstory:
Students across Central Texas saw an extended weekend due to snow and sleet danger.
Most schools were already closed on Monday, Jan. 20 for the Martin Luther King Day federal holiday and then districts decided to close on Tuesday, Jan. 21 as well due to the winter weather conditions.
Below is a list of school districts that have announced closures or delays for Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to the winter weather.
List of impacted school districts
Blanco ISD
All Blanco ISD campuses and offices will operate on a two-hour delayed start on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
All buses will run two hours later than on a regular day and school will start two hours later than the regularly scheduled start time. Breakfast will not be served.
Dime Box ISD
Dime Box ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Buses will run two hours later than normal.
Fayetteville ISD
Fayetteville ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Buses will run two hours later than normal, and secondary students will report to their second period class for attendance.
Flatonia ISD
Flatonia ISD will be delaying school by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Classes will begin at 10 a.m. and buses will run two hours later than normal. Breakfast will not be served.
Fredericksburg ISD
Fredericksburg ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Buses will run two hours later than usual and breakfast will be limited.
Giddings ISD
Giddings ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Gonzales ISD
Gonzales ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
La Grange ISD
La Grange ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Buses will run exactly two hours behind schedule, and breakfast will not be served.
Lexington ISD
Lexington ISD will have a 2-hour delayed start on Wednesday, Jan. 22. All classes will begin and offices will open two hours later than normal. Buses will run two hours later.
Luling ISD
Luling ISD will operate on a 2-hour delayed schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Buses will run two hours later than usual and cafeterias will open for breakfast at 9:15 a.m.
Nixon-Smiley CISD
Nixon-Smiley CISD will have a two-hour delay to begin school on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Buses will pick up at regular stops two hours later.
- Elementary classes will begin at 9:45 a.m. Doors will open at 9:20 a.m. for car line.
- Middle School classes will begin at 9:50 a.m. (tardy bell). Cafeteria will open at 9 a.m. for Middle School students. Parents should drop students off at Circle Drive.
- High School classes will begin at 9:50 a.m. (tardy bell). There will be no morning senior-releases for high school students. All students are expected to be at school by 9:50 a.m.
- DAEP drop-off will begin at 10:15 a.m.
Both breakfast and lunch will be served.
All after-school practices will be held as scheduled.
Prairie Lea ISD
PLISD will have a delayed start on Wednesday, Jan. 22, with classes starting at 9:30 a.m.
6th-12th grades will report to their 2nd period classes upon arrival in the morning.
Round Top-Carmine ISD
Round Top-Carmine ISD says it will be delaying classes by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Buses and classes will run two hours behind normal schedule.
Schulenburg ISD
Schulenburg ISD will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
The school district plans resume classes and activities on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Waelder ISD
Waelder ISD says it will start school at 10 a.m. and buses will run two hours late on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
