Suspect told police 'I want to go to jail, watch this'

A suspect was arrested for a misdemeanor after he told a police officer he wanted to go to jail. 51-year-old Steve Manor was arrested for evading arrest or detention on foot, a class a misdemeanor.

According to police, an officer made contact with Manor after he found him laying on a public sidewalk in the 700 block of East 7th Street around 9 p.m. on Monday, February 17. The officer told Manor it was against a city ordinance to be lying on the sidewalk and Manor became agitated, according to the affidavit.

Manor told the police officer, "I want to go to jail, watch this" before walking away from the officer at a fast pace into the main lanes of traffic on 7th Street. The police officer yelled for him to stop and he disregarded the lawful order for approximately 40 feet.

Manor then laid on his back with his arms spread out onto the roadway, directly into oncoming traffic.

Multiple vehicles had to stop to avoid hitting him, according to the arrest affidavit.

Manor was arrested and charged with evading arrest. After he was detained, the officer searched Manor and found a clear glass pipe with black residue consistent with crack cocaine in his left front pant pocket. An additional charge of possession of paraphernalia for drugs was added.

Steve Manor was taken to the Travis County Jail. Bond has been set at $ 3,000.
