Teen suspect escapes after robbery on electric scooter

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Instead of a getaway car, a teenager used an electric scooter after robbing a bank in downtown Austin. 19-year-old Luca P. Mangiarano was charged with robbery by threat - a second degree felony.

According to the Austin Police Department, a victim called dispatch on Tuesday, December 18 to report a bank robbery at the BBVA Compass bank at the 320 block of West 6th Street. The victim told police officers that a young white man with a hoodie walked into the bank and had approached her station. 

The victim was in his early 20's, had a thin build, a white hoodie and sunglasses with reflective lenses.

The suspect handed the victim a note that read, "This is a robbery, Please give me all your 100's and 50's in a envelope and everything will be ok." The victim told police officers she was scared and gave the suspect her cash from the bank drawer. Another employee at the bank told police officers he saw a male believed to be the suspect leave the bank and grab a scooter. 

Police officers were able to acquire surveillance video from a business nearby that showed a subject matching the suspect's description riding a scooter northbound away from the bank. Officers were able to recognize the scooter as a Jump scooter which is owned by Uber. 

The Austin Police Department requested account information from Uber for the Jump scooter used in the area during the robbery and were able to identify the suspect as Luca Mangiarano. 

Mangiarano was apprehended and arrested by police officers.
