Austin ISD board votes on resolution regarding district's response to coronavirus

The Austin ISD board of trustees held a special meeting on Friday to vote on a resolution in response to the coronavirus.

AISD tweeted that the board voted on a resolution to give the superintendent "the emergency authorization to act nimbly and effectively to address the ongoing emergency that affects our students and staff."

AISD says the resolution addresses the superintendent's authority to make purchases outside the normal contract and procurement requirements to ensure that AISD's schools remain safe and clean and to make necessary technology purchases to provide for ongoing learning.

The resolution also addresses compensating employees affected by the suspension of classes and applying for waivers with the Texas Education Agency regarding instructional minutes and low attendance.

There was no word as of Friday night on whether Austin ISD would be extending Spring Break.
