Police investigating suspicious death in North Austin

The Austin Police Department is investigating what they’re calling a “suspicious death” in north Austin.

Police say around 7:40 a.m. they were called to a unit in the Quail Creek apartment complex, located on 9100 block of Northgate Boulevard, for an urgent welfare check.

APD officer Destiny Silva said when officers arrived, they found the victim with upper body trauma. Silva said the victim, who the department is not identifying, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He was pretty nice. He was cool. He would always yell, and talk to me and everybody. He would always just yell and wave at us with his music going.” said Lillian Shores, who lives in an apartment complex near Quail Creek.

Shore and her husband have lived in the neighborhood for 13 years. She said in the past two years, they have seen what she believes is an uptick in violent crime.

‘[The Quail Creek] apartment complex right here is so hot," Shores said. "Every day you see people running in and out of here. We had a shooting over here already once before, and they had a stabbing over here."

She said her neighbor's death was a turning point. Fed up, she even said she would like to see Quail Creek “shut down.”

"Please stop it. Just stop the violence over here, because I'm tired of seeing violence happening." she pleaded.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department.
