Austin police looking for Sixth Street shooting suspect

An early morning shooting on New Year's Day sent two people to the hospital. Police say it happened inside the Terminal 6 bar on Sixth Street.

“There was a disturbance between several people and then shots rang out and everybody scattered from there,” said Det. Veneza Bremner with the Austin Police Department.

Two people were hit by the bullets, a man and woman, both 19 years old. Both are expected to be okay.

“We are looking for a light-skinned black male with long dreadlocks below the shoulders. He was wearing a multi-colored top. He's about 5'7"-6' tall, mid-thirties and 160 to 180 pounds,” said Bremnar.

The bar owner tells Fox 7 he decided to shut the bar down and sell it. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission oversees alcohol retail licensing.

“Terminal Six has been in place since about mid-2017. We currently have four open complaints against the business we are investigating. There was additionally one complaint shortly after they first opened and they received a written warning for breach of the peace,” said Chris Porter with TABC's public information office.

Porter said any time something violent happens at a Texas bar, they investigate to see if the bar has safe practices or if they're letting things slide.

“Allowing fights to take place on the premises, encouraging rival gang members to be in close proximity of one another, how the alcohol was sold. Was it sold to somebody who was intoxicated or somebody who was acting unruly or underage?” he said.

As the TABC conducts its investigation, it will be working closely with APD. Porter hopes other bar owners can take note.

“It's good business…good for the employees and customers to keep the business safe as it relates to overservice, or allowing violent incidents to take place,” said Porter
