City of Lakeway issues disaster declaration due to coronavirus

The City of Lakeway has issued a local declaration of disaster due to the coronavirus.

In an emergency alert, the city said it will be taking steps to help limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The following will be implemented in the city of Lakeway going forward:

  • Restaurant seating capacity is reduced by 50 percent
  • Gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited
  • Older and at-risk people are encouraged to self-quarantine as recommended by the CDC
  • Businesses are urged to implement CDC guidelines for business operations

“I know these are difficult times. We are in uncharted waters and are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of those in our community,” said Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox. “We are all in this together and the more we can all work together on limiting interactions, the better chances as a community we have to prevent the spread of this virus and also in protecting our older population and those at higher risk of serious illness due to the disease. Thank you all for helping keep each other safe. We will get through this together as a community.”

The declaration says the state of disaster will be in place for seven days unless continued or renewed by the Lakeway City Council. The declaration also activates the city's emergency management plan.
