Pedestrian dies after being hit by driver in South Austin

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a driver in South Austin early Friday morning, according to police and Austin-Travis County EMS.

APD reported that officers responded to a crash at 3:43 a.m. between a trash truck and a pedestrian in a parking lot in the 300 block of South Congress Avenue.

ATCEMS says the crash happened on East Riverside Drive near the intersection of South Congress.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

There were no other reported injuries.

CRIME COVERAGE

The incident is being investigated as Austin's 56th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 59 deaths for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 64 fatal crashes resulted in 65 deaths.
