Wintry blast hits Central Texas, light rain in some areas

A cold front has arrived in Central Texas and with it some wind, clouds and some light rain in some areas.

Meteorologist Zack Shields estimated rain totals to be expected around under a tenth of an inch.

Chances for a wintry mix are low but temperatures will be in the 40s and wind chills will be even colder with it expected to be in the 20s and 30s.

For Wednesday evening and night, Zack says there will be spotty precipitation with low pressure across the area. There'll be very low or no accumulation of anything at all but there may be some cold rain with a few flurries and sleet pellets thrown in.

Zack says there will be no ice event because the ground is still too warm and temperatures will be above freezing.

There's the possibility of some winter weather in some areas tonight so Austin-Travis County EMS is reminding people about safety tips for those who may experience some of it.

Temperatures had been in the 80s for much of Tuesday.
