Texas high school football 2025: FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas - It's high school football time again in Central Texas!

Each week, FOX 7 Austin highlights a high school football player who excelled for his team. The FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is then announced each Monday during our 9 p.m. newscast.

Week 11: Connally RB Jonah Garcia

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Connally running back Jonah Garcia. 

The junior rushed for 290 yards and five touchdowns in Connally's 65-26 win over Pflugerville. That win clinched a playoff spot for Connally.

Week 10: LBJ QB Jayelyn House

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is LBJ quarterback Jayelyn House. 

House threw for 201 yards and five touchdowns in the Jaguars' 49-14 win over Taylor in what was a battle of district "unbeatens."

With the win, LBJ all but clinches the district title with just one week left in the regular season.

Week 9: Lake Travis QB Luke McBride

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Lake Travis quarterback Luke McBride.

McBride helped Lake Travis win the annual "Battle of the Lakes" for the first time this decade! 

The senior threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns in the Cavaliers' 31-10 win over Westlake. The win snapped Lake Travis' sixth game, losing to the Chaps. This was the first time they've beaten Westlake since 2019.

Week 8: Georgetown RB Jett Walker

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Georgetown senior running back Jett Walker.

Walker, the future West Virginia Mountaineer, rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles' 31-8 win over crosstown rival East View in a game that was for sole possession of first place in the district.

Week 7: Hutto WR Jaiden Fields

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Hutto junior Jaiden Fields. 

Fields caught six passes for 164 yards and had three first-half touchdowns in the Hippos' thrilling 33-31 win over Round Rock. The win keeps Hutto as the only unbeaten team in District 25-6A play.

Fields also had seven tackles and an interception on defense.

Week 6: San Marcos QB Buck Steyn

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is San Marcos quarterback Buck Steyn. 

Steyn completed 18 of 26 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns in the Rattlers' 30-13 road win over Schertz Clemens.

Steyn also added a 10-yard touchdown run in the victory.

Week 5: Weiss QB Jaxon Schad

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Weiss quarterback Jaxon Schad. 

Schad accounted for five total touchdowns, four passing and one rushing, in the Wolves' 41-21 win over Hendrickson. 

Schad lead Weiss back after being intercepted on his first pass of the night and seeing his team fall behind 14-0. He led the Wolves to 41 unanswered points, handing Hendrickson its first district loss.

Week 4: Lampasas WR Jaden McElwain

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Lampasas senior wide receiver Jaden McElwain. 

McElwain caught six passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the Badgers' 31-24 road win over Wimberley. The win keeps Lampasas undefeated on the season, and was their second straight win over the Texans.

Week 3: LBJ WR Louis Hickman

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is LBJ wide receiver Louis Hickman. 

Hickman had nine catches for 220 yards and a touchdown in LBJ's 34-33 overtime win over Wimberley in a battle of 4A state powers.

Week 2: Rouse QB London Morgan

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Rouse quarterback London Morgan. 

Morgan threw for 422 yards and five touchdowns in Rouse's 49-43 thrilling overtime win over Liberty Hill.

Week 1: Dripping Springs QB Chase Ames

This week's FOX 7 Friday Football Player of the Week is Dripping Springs quarterback and junior Chase Ames.

Ames completed 17 of 24 passes for 244 yards and three touchdown passes in the Tigers' dominating upset win over defending state champion Vandegrift, 41-14.
